With reference to your letter of the 15th June 1899, W.L.1586/1660, forwarding copy of a letter from the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to the Colonial Office on the subject of the proposed reclamation eastward of the extension of the Naval Yard at Hong Kong, and asking for the concurrence the remarks of Lord Lansdowne on the revised scheme for the War Department reclamation therein referred to; I am directed to acquaint you that the Secretary of State for War has no objection to the alteration suggested by their Lordships to the Colonial Office, in the arrangement of the sea walls &c.: on the understanding that the expenditure involved is not to fall upon the War Department.
2. I am to enclose for their Lordships' information a copy of War Office letter of the 9th June which has been sent to the Colonial Office in reply to their reference to this office on the subject of the reclamation and extension in question.
